Bible Meditation Psalm 119:47
Delighting in, and loving, God's commandments is a very rare thing today, indeed.
Psalm 119:47—“And I will delight myself in Your commandments, Which I love.”
One of the saddest tragedies on this earth, and a major reason why there is so much war, murder, stealing, rape, adultery, homosexuality, greed, covetous, and every other sin one could name, is that there are very, very, VERY few people today who “delight” in God’s commandments. Most people today “delight” in sin, in pleasure, in selfishness and self-gratification. There is very little attempt today among men at self-control, at overcoming the lusts of the flesh. Of course, so much of modern nihilistic philosophy is epicurean, i.e., it teaches that pleasure is the end-all of life. And, well, if there is no God, then we might as well eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we die. We’ll be in eternal nothingness like Adolf Hitler now is. Given that thought, why be “good”? Hitler certainly wasn’t “good,” even by atheist’s own admission. But, if we are all going to end up like him after we die, then why not live like him while we are alive? We’ll be no worse off than he is after death. People are smart enough to figure that out—which is why there is so much war, murder, stealing, etc. etc. in the world today as human try, as Hitler did, to fulfill their conception of “pleasure”—just as Hitler did.
David loved the commandments of God. That is why he is with God right now. For those who don’t love the commandments of God, then, after they die, He will give them exactly what they want—an eternity away from Him. They didn’t want to be with Him on this earth, why would they want to be with Him after they die? They hated righteousness while they were alive, they certainly aren’t going to want an eternity of it. I’m not sure they are going to enjoy hell, but, well, it’s their choice.
