Psalm 119:48—“My hands also I will lift up to Your commandments, Which I love, and I will meditate on Your statutes”
Three things in this verse:
1. David will “lift up” his hands to God’s commandments. People often raise their hands and their voices as expressions of delight, joy, or victory. The heart is full and cannot help but pour out this expression of happiness and appreciation. Watch a football game. The first thing that happens when “our” team scores a touchdown is everybody stands up, shouts, and...raises their hands. It’s God’s commandments that causes this reaction in David.
2. Commandments “which I love.” We give outward expressions (represented by the lifting on hands here) towards those things which we love. We cannot keep true love bottled up. It will be expressed outwardly. Pedophiles “love” their sexual perversion and promiscuity. And they show it in their vile deeds.
3. And, in order to learn more about that which he loves (the commandments of God), David will spend time with them, “meditating” on them, learning them, thinking about them.
The things we love will cause us to give outward responses. You can tell what a person loves by what he does. David loved God and His commandments, and demonstrated it in his life.
