(Editor’s note: I have submitted this article—at least the first part of it—to Townhall.comm for publication. I’m not sure they will publish it, Townhall gets a little squeamish about moral issues at time, though the part I submitted to them only dealt with the Constitutional issues, as I did in my special video podcast today. If you have read the Townhall edition (provided they publish it), you can scan the first few paragraphs for they are the same. The last half here is additional material.)
We all (should) know that abortion is not mentioned in the Constitution. Even liberals have to admit the word is nowhere found in the document. So, they do some fancy step-dancing and mix up some esoteric legal hocus-pocus to come up with a justification for what they want to do anyway. Democrats couldn’t care less what the Constitution says, they only care about their right to practice any depraved lifestyle they choose without having to accept any consequences for it. Other people can pay the consequences.
The Supreme Court, in the Dobbs case, did the constitutional thing. The 10th Amendment clearly states, “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.” Clear, right? Well, yeah, but no, especially to people who received their mis-education in the American government’s mis-education system.
The foundation idea of this country was that the states created the federal government, Abraham Lincoln to the contrary notwithstanding. These several (13 at the time) states sacrificed to the national government certain powers which they believed the national government could perform better than the individual states. In these cases, collective action would be superior to individual action. They believed it would be better, for example, for the federal government to oversee the post office rather than have 13 different post offices (debatable, I know). Additionally, one currency is established by the federal government, which, it was believed, would be a superior system to having 13 separate currencies. Another is Congress is given the power to declare war; you don’t want, for example, the state of Maine declaring war on Russia and dragging all the other states into it. So that is a power the states sacrificed to the national government, the collective will. Things like that. There are only about 17 such powers given to Congress as enumerated in the original Constitution; read Article 1, Section 8. The right of abortion, which the Founders probably never even thought about as they probably couldn’t imagine a man and woman wanting to kill their unborn baby, is not a power the states would have given to the federal government even if they had thought about it. The states are closer to the people, the people can have more control over the state government than they can the national government. Actually, most power should be in the hands of local governments. How many of you readers know Joe Biden personally, or any Cabinet member, and have any influence over any of them? But, how many of you know your town mayor or some council or school board member? Chances are you might know some of these folks and can directly express to them, “If you screw up, buddy, I’m going to come to your house and kick you in your Schumer.” The closer to the people, the more control they have. That is EXACTLY why the Founding Fathers gave very few, and mostly minor, powers to the federal government, and all other powers (including abortion) to the states. And it is EXACTLY why the Democratic Party is doing everything within its power to undermine and destroy the Constitution and centralize more power in the hands of Washington, D.C. Power to the states or people (another word for “freedom”) takes away power from the Democratic Party and that is the one thing that sends Nancy Botox into spasms of madness and hysteria.
However, the people in Washington, D.C., have, by and large, and incrementally, succeeded over the history of the United States in centralizing more and more power into their hands. Take the time some time to read the Constitution. You won’t find 99.9% of what Congress does today in that document if you read it till the end of time (federal loans for student education? Please show that to me in the Constitution.). It could be argued (I have many times) that our current government, where so much of the power is now (unconstitutionally) centralized in the hands of the national government, is exactly what George, Tom, John, James and the rest of our forefathers rebelled against almost 250 years ago. Our government pays no more attention to their Constitution than the former Soviet Union did to theirs.
But occasionally, they slip up and get something right. And the Supreme Court, in the Dobbs case, did indeed get it right, i.e., place abortion where the Constitution places it, into the hands of the states (if not into the hands of God). And, of course, half the country, and all of the Democratic Party, wet its newspapers about it. Which tells you, (1) they know nothing about the Constitution, or (2) they don’t care what it says. And while both are probably true, the latter almost certainly has the most adherents.
Abortion is simply one more example, and the best and saddest, of how post-Christian sexual nihilism and hedonism has taken over the country (and much of Western civilization). Nothing is to interfere with sexual freedom and licentiousness. These people are the very definition of selfishness. Actually, a woman made her “choice” when she spread her legs; the possibility of getting pregnant is always there unless the greatest care is taken. But this is also about denying responsibility and accountability. Feminists want to have their sexual liberation and not have to face the consequences—other people, usually innocent, pay the price. Always remember that such is a cardinal doctrine of modern Leftism, which is steadily moving us towards the secular “utopia” they promised us (but which never seems to arrive). Peasants die for the cause, not Stalin. If an “oops” happens, “well, it’s my body, I can get rid of it if I want to.” Only the consequence of the subsequent satisfaction, desire, and hedonistic pleasure of the abortionist is considered important. That’s all that matters. All else be damned. This isn’t “reproductive freedom,” it is totally selfish “sexual freedom.”
Actually, three people are involved in the process of creating a new human being. That thing inside the woman is the product of two people; it belongs as much to the man who conceived it as to the woman who carries it. But, modern men, also not wanting the responsibility of child-rearing (or the possible denial of their sexual lust), support abortion, too. And there is the unwanted “consequence”--the baby, who from its very conception is alive and growing and is the offspring of two human beings. The real “choice” should belong to him/her—that gender is determined and fixed at conception, not five, ten, fifteen or umpteen years later. The baby might “choose” not to enter this world; miscarriages happen. If the babe comes out of its mother’s womb, then obviously his/her choice was birth. Yes, technically—as far as we know now—the babe’s actions in the womb are involuntary and instinctual, but most of our physical function are involuntary—try not breathing for awhile. Stop your heart from beating or your blood from flowing or your food from digesting. We “choose” to do these involuntary actions just as a baby involuntarily “chooses” to grow in the womb and move towards the outside world. Even later in life, we fight, often by instinct, to live as long as we can. But since the thing in the womb is only a “fetus,” its wants and desires, its instinctive choices, don’t count. Redefining terms is another major manifesto of the modern left. Call it a “baby” and you can’t kill it. Call it a “fetus” and you can. These people are sick. And evil.
The birth of a child does not change the fact that it is alive. It has been alive for nine months, growing, developing, feeling, yea, even learning every day. Birth doesn’t change a baby’s life, it changes the baby’s state—from unborn to born. He or she has been alive since conception, a life which can only come as the offspring of two human beings, birth being as natural as digesting one’s food.
Killing that baby on the altar of “choice” means that he/she has been brutally and selfishly denied the same “choices” his/her mother, doctor, and the Democratic Party members enjoy every day of their lives. They all want to “choose” to live their lives as they wish, and yet they demand the right to refuse that choice to another human being—the most innocent human being of all. Me but not thee. That sounds a lot like Hitler to me.
There is, there can be, no act more selfish and barbaric than aborting another human being, preventing him/her from enjoying the things the mother enjoys. Every act of murder is ultimate selfishness. And abortion is the most inexcusable and criminal of all.
Thus, abortion is indeed the most selfish act a woman (and her mate who agrees to it) can commit. To want the pleasure and yet escape the consequences is the very definition of selfishness and coarse human depravity. Abortion is the left’s religion, they are terrorists about it; it must be defended at all costs, because it is the very emblem and essence, the icon, of their post-modern, nihilistic, anti-Christian, pleasure-oriented, self-centered, responsibility and consequence-denying existence. And they do that by choice. Pure Evil. Evil by choice.
