Can you tell me one, single solitary historical event that took place in the year 1024? If you can, you are a better historian than I am. I know certain general truths of happenings that year—England was around, France, China, Mayas—but I don’t know, off the top of my head, any specific event in that year. And, honestly, I don’t really care or think it is terrible important.
We need context, folks, if we are going to understand the purpose of this life. I certainly believe, and I write and podcast about it all the time, that we need to be greatly concerned about our current world, the situation in our country, etc., etc. But do you think, 1,000 years from now, anybody is going to care, or even remember off the top of their heads, who won the Presidential election in America? Probably not. If 2024 changes the world, like 1066 or 1492 did, then people might remember. But...probably not (do you know what happened in 1066? I DO hope you know 1492...)
I don’t know if the people in 3024 will care what happened in 2024 or not. But I do know one thing for absolute certainty—you and I aren’t going to care because we aren’t going to be here.
“Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man” (Ecclesiastes 12:13).
Don’t forget what life is REALLY all about. Let’s save our country, if we can. But let’s save our souls first. Ultimately, that is all that will matter to us.
