Bible Meditation: Psalm 119:16
Psalm 119:16—“I will delight myself in your statutes; I will not forget Your word.”
Two thoughts here, delighting in God’s Word and not forgetting it. When we truly understand the full consequences of obedience to the Lord’s statutes, then it is not difficult to find delight in them. Following God’s truth will lead to a peaceful, honorable, godly existence. It doesn’t mean we will be free of life’s hardships and pain; God will test us by fire in order to prove our character and make us worthy to enter the eternal home. Jesus promised we would be hated for His name’s sake. But still, there is a “peace that passes understanding” (Philippians 4:7) in trusting God and, eventually, eternal life. This current existence, compared to eternity, is obviously only a “vapor” (James 4:14).
Thus, we will be forever wise to hide the word of God in our hearts (Psalm 119:11), and not forget it. Knowledge is good, but application is necessary, too. And that is surely what David means here. “Be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves” (James 2:22). Too many people talk a good religion, but never perform.
