Bible Meditation: Psalm 119:17
Psalm 119:17—“Deal bountifully with Your servant, That I may live and keep Your word.”
What we have here is a prayer, asking God to “deal bountifully” with His “servant” David. In return, David could live and keep God’s word. The Lord has certainly provided this earth with an overabundance of blessings. If we misuse them, as has happened too often in the past, that is not His fault, but ours.
God has told us how to live. That is what the Bible is for. It directs us in this life on our journey to the eternal home He has prepared for us. But when we refuse to listen to Him, we not only cause severe problems for ourselves, but lose our chance for eternal life. “O Lord, I know the way of man is not in himself; It is not in man who walks to direct his own steps,” (Jeremiah 10:23). All we have to do is give a cursory look at our world today and see the truth of this dictum of Jeremiah.
We should accept and be thankful for God’s countless blessing, and use them wisely, and more importantly, keep His word. In return, we can live here on this earth as long as He sees fit and enjoy the eternal city awaiting us. Few people do that, but again, that isn’t His fault, but ours.
