Bible Meditation: Psalm 119:18
Psalm 119:18—“Open my eyes, that I may see Wondrous things from Your law.”
It doesn’t take much effort to see “wondrous” things in God’s word, but a person does need to open his eyes and look with an honest, open heart. The Bible was written in ancient times and was meant to be understood, first, by the people to whom it was written, and secondly, to every succeeding generation until the Lord comes back. If we don’t put the Bible in its historical context—which atheists, Leftists, and skeptics almost never do—we’ll never perceive those “wondrous” things the Bible has for us.
Only God can work miracles. The miracles were the ultimate proof that Jesus was/is the Messiah. His teaching is superior to any other the world has ever known, but if He was just a man, we owe Him no more allegiance than to any other human. But His “wondrous” teaching was confirmed by the miraculous evidence. The apostles “confirm[ed] the words through the accompanying signs [miracles],” (Mark 16:20). Such is just one of the “wondrous” things in God’s law.
I don’t know exactly how God “opens our eyes” to see the wondrous things in His law, but it is a humble prayer we all should make. We’ll miss the greatest blessings of this life if we don’t.
