Bible Meditation: Psalm 119:20
Psalm 119:20—“My soul breaks with longing For Your judgments at all times.”
Seeking God with our whole heart—that seems to be the theme of this verse. “You will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart” (Jeremiah 29:13). Most people, sadly, never find God; they don’t really want to because what they hear about Him is that He requires them to do things they don’t want to do, and forbids them from doing things they DO want to do. So, they go their own way and miss the blessings of a righteous, God-filled life.
The yearning, the longing in David’s heart is what strikes me about this verse. His “soul (heart?) breaks” with that longing to find God. There is an intensity here that most of us probably never match. Notice he does it “at all times.” David’s religion was not a part-time thing. It dominated his life. He was far from perfect, of course, but he found time for God, and his motivation to serve God, his longing for God never ceased.
It is an example we all should strive for.
