Bible Meditation: Psalm 119:24
Wise are we if we find "delight" and let the Word of God be our counselor
Psalm 119:24—“Your testimonies also are my delight And my counselors.”
Two thoughts here—the Word of God is a “delight” to David. He enjoyed hearing it, reading it, studying it, meditating upon it, talking about it—he “delights” in it. It made him happy. David certainly wasn’t perfect, he sinned like the rest of it, but he knew a good thing when he heard/read it, and it gave him joy. Humans find “delight” in many things, especially the “pleasures of sin” (Hebrews 11:25). Not too many “delight” in the “testimonies” of God, and that is fairly obvious by the condition our world is in today.
And such condition is further obvious by the fact that few people make God’s word their “counselors,” like David did. Human counselors give advice to people, although very few base their guidance on the Bible; we are too “intelligent” for that. And, truly, one of the greatest tragedies in the world today is that so few listen to the instructions of God. The wise can perceive the results; the foolish barrel on to their own destruction. We would be far better off if we would follow David here and find delight and counseling in the message of God.
