Bible Meditation: Psalm 119:25
Psalm 119:25—“My soul clings to the dust; Revive me according to Your word.”
Sometimes life gets the better of all of us. Sickness, disease, financial woes—the problems, worries, heartbreaks, disappointments, the negatives of this vale of tears often overwhelm us. Even kings—David—didn’t escape.
Of course, this earthly existence isn’t intended to be our ultimate home. We are only “passing through” this world, on our way to a far better one IF we will let God lead us there. Because of sin, this life is cursed for every person; often it’s our own fault because of our own decisions and sins. But often we suffer because of matters beyond our control—natural catastrophes, the sinful actions of others, the cruelties of the flesh. God often seems very capricious to us, and such causes countless people to reject Him. They think they know better than He does how to run the world. The same people who blame God for the starving children in Africa (and never lift one of their own fingers to help them) are often the same people who mutilate children in America for the sake of the sexual gratification of perverts. Tell you what: you pray to God to feed the children of Africa and I’ll pray to God to quit allowing the butchery of children and the murder of unborn babies in America. I don’t think most heathen would go for that exchange. It’s a cruel world, and more often than not, it’s humanity’s fault—even the “starving children in Africa.”
“For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which be revealed in us” (Romans 8:18). “Just one glimpse of Him in glory will the toils of life repay.” The great truths of the Bible can indeed “revive” us and help us carry on. The saddest tragedy that exists is that the light is in mankind’s hands and too many flatly refuse to look at it.
