Bible Meditation: Psalm 119:27
Psalm 119:27—“Make me understand the way of Your precepts; So shall I meditate on your wonderful works.”
It is not in man who walks to direct his own steps, Jeremiah said (Jer. 10:23), so we need God’s providential guidance. He doesn’t directly give us His word today, as He did His prophets and apostles of old, while His word was in the process of being delivered to man and written down. So, we aren’t “inspired” by God as they were. But He can still lead us by His providence and mercy—if we will let Him. “Make me understand the way of your precepts.” He can do that, if we have a willing heart. If we are stubborn and rebellious, He cannot and will not help us.
When we open our eyes to “meditate” on God’s word, we can see His wonderful works. We will never understand all of what God is doing here on earth; indeed, His thoughts and ways are infinitely higher than ours (Isaiah 55:7-8). At times, from a human perspective, God’s ways seem capricious. So did my earthly father’s at times, simply because I didn’t understand. And I certainly don’t understand all of God’s ways. But I trust Him to do the right thing, whether I understand it or not. And my earthly journey is very short anyway.
Prepare for the eternity that awaits us. That is true wisdom, and found in very few hearts.
