Psalm 119:33—“Teach me, O Lord, the way of Your statutes, And I shall keep it to the end.”
The Hebrew word “teach” has the inherent meaning of “to throw, cast, hurl” and then “to teach.” David is, in effect, asking God to get His word to the king in any method possible. David just wanted to learn God’s “statutes” (word). God, in His providence, has many ways to instruct us—if we are willing to learn. “Teach me thy statutes” David requested earlier in verse 12. He desired to be more and more acquainted with God’s message. And wouldn’t we have a much better world today if everybody felt that way?
David intended to keep God’s word “to the end,” that is, as long as he lived. Learning, of course, is a process, not an event, thus day-by-day we should strive to “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (II Peter 3:18). Grace—by humble submission to God, Knowledge—by a diligent study of His word. God will help us if we ask, and if we are truly willing to learn His will.
