Bible Meditation: Psalm 119:6
Psalm 119:6—“Then I would not be ashamed, When I look into all Your commandments.”
The word “then” indicates this idea is based upon the preceding one, that “my ways were directed to keep Your statutes.” When we do the Lord’s will, we never have anything to be ashamed of. If our ways are “directed” to keep God’s Word, then we won’t even be ashamed to “look into all [His] commandments.” We can live a pure life with a clean conscience.
“Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? No! They were not at all ashamed; nor did they know how to blush” (Jeremiah 6:15). If that doesn’t sound like America, 2023, nothing does, and it was written 2500 years ago. There will be, of course, a price to pay: “Therefore they shall fall among those who fall; At the time I punish them, They shall be cast down,” says the Lord.”
America is obviously headed for that fall. People can’t—won’t—see it. But it’s coming. And there doesn’t appear to be a thing in the world anybody can do about it. If the great Jeremiah couldn’t stop it in ancient Israel, how do we expect to stop it today?
Shame on America. But too many Americans have none.
