A recent report by the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) has demonstrated that energy prices in blue states are substantially higher than energy prices in red states. I’ve never heard of “ALEC” before, so take this report with a grain of salt, but it makes sense. Red states rely on market forces which will tend to lower or stabilize prices, but blue states, with their heavy-handed government policies—especially regarding “man-made climate change”—force prices up. So, whoever “ALEC” is, this report is almost surely correct.
Government interference in the economy almost always causes prices to inflate. We’ve seen clear evidence of this in the three years of the Biden administration. Indeed, profligate government spending is the main reason for inflation. And while some government regulation is (sadly) necessary due to the greed and wickedness of man (“if all men were angels, we wouldn’t need government,” James Madison), it doesn’t change the fact that government policies are inflationary. First of all, any new policy requires a new, and almost ever-growing bureaucracy, to administer it. That means new taxes are necessary to pay for the new bureaucracy and whatever measures are necessary to implement the policy. Blue states have swallowed the ridiculous “climate change” doctrine whole hog, and their citizens pay for it through higher taxes and other prices that regulations demand. So, again, ALEC’s report is not surprising in the least.
Too many people who love power and do not have the self-discipline to administer it correctly get into government. It doesn’t help when lying to obtain more power (“man-made climate change”) also becomes a major policy motivation.
Conclusions: stay away from blue states. Move if you live in one. As many people are indeed doing.
