Mr. Trump has dropped a few names that he is considering for his Vice Presidential running mate, and I’ve never seen Chip Roy’s name mentioned. I suspect most Americans have never heard of Chip Roy. He is the Republican representative in Congress from the 21st district of Texas. Here is something he recently said that will tell you just about everything you need to know about him:
“But if we’re going to win in November, Republicans need to lead...Republicans can’t continue to be Democrat-lite, which is what they’re doing.”
I lived for a while in Roy’s congressional district, and get his email newsletter. He is just about as strong a conservative as there is in Congress. He is the kind of person needed as Vice-President.
Actually, my first choice for Vice-President is Ron DeSantis, but that doesn’t seem like it’s going to happen. Trump must choose a solid conservative, somebody who will fulfill American values should something happen to the President. If he does win this year, Trump will be 78 years old at his inauguration. And while he seems to be in good health, and Joe Biden has stumbled so far through his first three years, Trump WILL be 78-81 during his second term. There is no guarantees of life for anybody, much less someone that age, so he needs to consider very strongly who would be the best person to take over in case something does happen to him.
There are some good people out there. I’ve read a few names Trump has tossed out there, not all of whom I think are top-notch. DeSantis would easily be the best—and in the strongest position for a 2028 run for the presidency. Chip Roy is a very good man with very strong conservative values. Again, I’ve not heard his name mentioned as a possible Trump running mate, so I don’t expect him to be the VP. But he IS the kind of person needed in that slot, not some useless DEI pick like Biden made.
Here’s hoping Trump will make a wise choice.
