Christian Charity vs. Leftist Charity
The Left, which hates and knows nothing about Christianity, wants to educate us on Christian charity.
Walter Williams said it perfectly: “Reaching into someone else’s pocket to assist one’s fellow man hardly qualifies as charity.”
James Madison told us about it constitutionally: “Charity is no part of the legislative duty of the government.” And, “I cannot undertake to lay my finger on that article of the Constitution which granted a right to Congress of expending, on objects of benevolence, the money of their constituents.” That from the man who is considered the “Father of our Constitution.”
Any intelligent person knows that charity, to be virtuous, needs to be voluntary. Being forced by government through taxes to pay money to organizations who give some money to those who need it but who keep most of the money for themselves—organizations with “leaders” who decide where and to whome the money will go—this isn’t exactly, or anything close, to what Jesus meant when He talked about helping the poor. But the Left thinks it gives them the moral high ground. Force money from taxpayers and give it to the people you want to give it to. Strange standard of morality, indeed.
Only a Leftist, and an incredibly stupid one, can see “charity” and “virtue” in that.
