Is It a Slam-Dunk for Trump?
Barring a health crisis or assassination, Donald Trump almost seems to be a certainty for the Republican nomination for President. Being in Thailand, I don’t know what is going on “on the ground” in America. The first Republican primary, in Iowa, is in January. Ron DeSantis, or some other candidate, might be racking up support going door-to-door and come up with a surprise victory. But that isn’t coming through in the media. So maybe that is the curse of my living in Thailand. But all I see is Trump, Trump, Trump.
I look at a lot of news sites, and they are all dominated by reports about Donald Trump. There is the occasional blurb about something DeSantis said (or did, usually negative), or Nikki Haley, or Tim Scott, but it’s only occasional. The news is dominated by Trump. If that is the way it really is in America, then obviously Trump is going to be the nominee. I know the Democrats want him to be, so I’m not surprised when CNN, MSNBC, and the Democratic Party media is overwhelmingly advertising Trump. But I am a little surprised at the “conservative” media.
DeSantis did make a headline on “The Liberty Daily,” a conservative website. Here’s the headline: “DeSantis’s SuperPAC Spokesman Stever Cortes Has Left the Campaign”. In other words, something negative. “The Liberty Daily” is all in for Trump, as is Breitbart and several others. Townhall writers, and commenters, aren’t nearly as unanimous. There are a number of Townhall columnists who are dead set against Trump, some because they don’t think he can win a national election, and some because they are sick of him, personally. The same seems to be true among the “normal Americans” who comment on articles. But the Republican media (that I read, admittedly not all of them), are on Trump’s bandwagon. I’m not sure why that is so, but it seems to be the case.
And they publish every poll that has Trump well ahead of his Republican rivals. Is it a conspiracy? Are they trying to manipulate Republican voters? It would appear so.
So—from Thailand—it looks to be overwhelmingly Trump. We won’t know for sure until the primaries take place, but right now, the good money has to be on Donald Trump as Republican Party candidate for President next year.
