“The issue today is the same as it has been throughout all history, whether man shall be allowed to govern himself or be ruled by a small elite.” Thomas Jefferson
What is fascinating about the above quote is that it was written 200 years ago. And, as with so much of what our Founders said, it is just as applicable today as it was when first penned. Jefferson, in the early “free” days of American history, was as concerned about tyranny IN HIS DAY as you and I are today.
But notice how he accurately notes that this problem has been true “throughout all history.” Tyrants never stop. I recently published an article on Townhall on how the monsters (totalitarian despots) never stop coming. If we aren’t vigilant (and humans rarely are because we have to make a living and conduct our lives), then the monsters will eat us. As they are trying to do today.
I will soon write a fuller article for Townhall on this Jefferson quote and publish it here, too. It needs fuller elucidation than I can give it now.
