New House Speaker
I don’t know a lot about Mike Johnson, the new Speaker of the House. What I read is good. I’ve read he has a strong conservative record, but his best recommendation may be that Democrats don’t like him. Since one is known by his enemies as much as he is known by his friends, that’s a good thing.
The only thing that really matters is, what is Johnson going to do? What kinnd of Speaker will he be? Is he going to be another Swamp Creature, or is he going to have the guts to stand up to Washington and do what the country needs? Only time will tell. History doesn’t give us a lot of hope, but history can only tell us what has happened, not what will happen. Hopefully, Johnson will be a true “diamond in the rough” and make some serious effort to turn the country around.
People have been having a fit over this mess in House the past three weeks. I’ve never thought it was a significantly major event. There was no doubt that, at some point, a new Speaker would be elected. The whole matter will be forgotten in a very short time and won’t hurt the Republicans next year to any significant degree. Unless Johnson proves to be a total disaster. A less-than-optimal, Swamp Speaker was removed, the government couldn’t do much for three weeks (that’s a bad thing??), and now we go forward. To what, only the coming months will reveal.
We’ll be watching, Mike...
