Trump Continues to Hurt Himself
Townhall.com refused to print this article. You can figure out why. I know why. And it's the reason America won't survive much longer.
Donald Trump has a massive, incredibly loyal following. Everywhere he goes he is greeted with ecstasy, shouts of joy, praise, and support. Maybe Barack Obama received the same exultation when he campaigned, but I don’t really remember it being this intense.
And much of the praise for Trump is well-deserved. Except for some of the people he chose as advisors (especially Anthony Fauci, but there were others), he was an outstanding President. We can thank Trump for the overturning of Roe v. Wade and affirmative action, among other solid Supreme Court decisions. America was respected, maybe even feared a little around the world, when Trump was President. We are laughed at now because of Biden. These are no small matters, and they are why the decadent, hate-America left despises Donald Trump worse than anybody else in the world, right up there with their hatred Jesus and God.
Evidence continues to come forth that there were some serious distortions and malfeasance in the 2020 presidential election, evidence one must dig a little to find because the Democratic Party State Media will never admit it exists. At best, suspicion about the outcome is certainly justified. We may never know absolutely what happened, but millions of Americans are convinced the election was indeed stolen. Joe Biden getting 81 million votes is, to say the least, a bit incredible.
So, Trump is running for President again. He thinks he deserves the office because of what happened in 2020. Millions of Americans agree with him and are passionate in their support of him. But millions hate him and, unfortunately, he is turning countless more against him, just because of his arrogant, narcissistic behavior. He doesn’t have to do that, but he does. It’s just Trump. We get the bad with the good. But the bad means he will probably never be President again.
Recently, Mr. Trump said about Ron DeSantis, that when he heard DeSantis was running for President, he said, “That son of a b***h is running. I got him elected!” That, no doubt, cost Trump more support. First of all, his foul mouth. It is totally uncalled for in a public forum. I’m not as old as Trump, but I still go back a ways, and find it appalling that he would use such language in front of women and children. Yes, I know, I know, I’m old-fashioned, that this is the age we live in now, but I insist that we have to lift our standards higher than that, point the country back to a time of decency and respectability. Donald Trump doesn’t even come close to doing that, any more than Joe Biden does. Yes, Trump wants to “Make America Great Again,” and Biden wants to destroy the country. But, part of that greatness must be a moral example to the world. Trump doesn’t understand that; many Americans—conservative, God-fearing Americans—do, and he is losing them because of it, current decadent age or not.
Secondly, Trump’s self-centered arrogance is also turning many people away from him. “I got DeSantis elected!” No, he didn’t. Ron DeSantis got Ron DeSantis elected, and he has become America’s best governor. That scares Trump, of course, because Republicans know what DeSantis has done in Florida. Trump is aware of it, too; he has even praised DeSantis on occasion for his masterful work. But, once again, Trump’s character led him over the line.
DeSantis’s record in Florida—any failings there—are fair game and, indeed, should be exposed for all to see. Calling him a “son of a b***h,” however, is totally repulsive, childish, crude, and despicable. It is beneath contempt. It is costing Trump supporters that he can’t afford to lose.
I have written much praising Donald Trump’s record as President, his fight against the “Deep State” that is a threat, not just to him, but to every American, and when he says, does, and promises something that will be helpful to America, I will continue to laud him. But when he does stupid, Trump things, he turns me, and millions of others, off. He would certainly be a far superior choice over Joe Biden or any other Democrat in America. No President has ever been perfect, and I don’t expect Donald Trump (or Ron DeSantis) to be. But I do want decency, rectitude, and respect, especially for honorable political opponents (which doesn’t include Joe Biden), in my President. If we don’t get that from our candidates, then they are no better people than Democrats. Ron DeSantis may, or may not be, the best choice for the Republican Party next year. I haven’t decided yet. But what I have seen of him, so far—that may change—is a man of far higher character than Donald Trump is showing. We have a sack of human garbage in the White House right now; I don’t want another one.
Please, Mr. Trump, be honorable. But, I fear, that just isn’t in the nature of the man. Maybe it’s just the age we live in, and too many have grown accustomed to it. But I never intend to. I will not sink to that level of degradation.
