People go to that city and go nuts. Mike Pence, on Sunday, intimated that Donald Trump’s claim that he could end the war in 24 hours (a bit of a weird claim, I admit) is “embracing the politics of appeasement on the world stage [and] walking away from our role as leader of the free world.”
I see. So, America is the “leader of the free world” only as long as we embrace a war in Ukraine that has been going on, off and on, for generations and will never stop, except to catch its breath. And I guess we should embrace any other war that people like Pence think we need to waste our people’s money on, whether there is any national interest at stake or not. The only “conservative” position, apparently, is to be a warmonger when people like Pence say we should be. That’s leadership?
Senator Tom Cotton, who I had (before I read the following Tweet) always had a lot of respect for, apparently agrees with Pence. Cotton tweeted: “I wrote to President Biden with my colleagues and urged him to provide Ukraine with the missiles its military needs to win. Not doing so will only prolong the war and cost lives.” What an idiotic claim. Russia put missiles in Cuba in 1962 and we told them to get them out or there might be a third World War. But we can send missiles to Ukraine, next to Russia, otherwise that war will be “prolonged” and “cost lives.” Russia putting missiles in Cuba is a threat to world peace, but America sending missiles to Ukraine will end a war? Russia is supposed to accept that? Why doesn’t Senator Cotton write to President Biden and urge him to try to find a peaceful solution to the conflict rather than sending more missiles that will kill people? Missiles won’t “cost lives”?
I guess I’m just a peasant and don’t understand why my money has to be wasted on a war that means absolutely nothing to me and does nothing to put food on my table. If we must support wars thousands of miles away, where nobody attacked us, in order to be “leader of the free world,” then I’d just as soon not be “leader of the free world.” I still haven’t heard one viable explanation why a generations-long war between Russia and Ukraine is in America’s vital interests. It just doesn’t compute to me. Since when has Ukraine been our “friend,” providing something of vital interest to America? Oh, I forgot. It provided Hunter Biden a job and the Biden crime family a lot of money. I can understand why Biden would want to protect his sugar daddy, but Republicans like Cotton should know better. Well, there is a reason we call it the “Stupid Party.” And if the Republican Party is simply going to be “Democratic Party Lite,” then why vote for them?
I hate war, but I realize sometimes it is necessary. But it would be nice if our leaders would explain why this war in Ukraine, which as noted has been going on for generations, is any of our business or represents some kind of serious threat to the United States. Ukraine provides nothing we need. If Vladimir Putin attacks us, or if some strategic ally of America is threatened or attacked, then we hit with everything we’ve got. Otherwise, we need to mind our own business and take care of the myriad problems politicians like Biden, Pence, and Cotton have created in our own country. Can’t ANYBODY flush that full toilet called Washington, D.C.?
