The above survey/poll is sick, of course, but not terribly surprising. Hate is a great evil, but it isn’t uncommon in our world and never has been, and has been the source of much, much evil. In our own country, much of the source of hate comes from the Left’s abhorrence of Christianity. Again, not surprising. Read the following predictions:
“And you will be hated for My name’s sake,” (Matthew 10:22).
“The world…hates Me because I testify of it that its works are evil,” (John 7:7).
“Do not marvel, my brethren, if the world hates you,” (I John 3:13).
And, of course, they killed Jesus because He wouldn’t shut up. They would kill Him again today.
People love sin more than they love God and they will hate those who expose that sin. Darkness hates light.
It has always been a little strange to me that a religion that teaches “love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control” (Galatians 5:22-23) as its core values can find such tremendous opposition in the world. It is no doubt because that same religion teaches “Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God” (I Corinthians 6:9-10). People would rather commit sodomy than love other people. So, they hate those who teach true love (which means obedience to God) and hate those who try to save their souls by exposing their sin and attempt to get them to turn away from it so that they can enjoy eternal life.
Like I said, strange. But human. And sad.
Don’t hate anybody. Hate what they do, but love the person enough to try to get them to turn from the things that will destroy them. And don’t be shocked when they hate you for it.
