Wisdom from the Founders—Virtuous Rulers
Something America and the world is sorely lacking today
“The aim of every political constitution is, or ought to be, first to obtain for rulers men who possess most wisdom to discern, and most virtue to pursue, the common good of the society, and in the next place, to take the most effectual precautions for keeping them virtuous whilst they continue to hold their public trust.” James Madison
If there is one thing America has not done, if there is one great principle the country has tossed out the window, if there is one great piece of advice and truth that is mocked and ridiculed today, it is the words of James Madison above as written in The Federalist, no. 57.
Of course, it starts by knowing what “virtue” is, and we no longer do. The Left has made licentiousness, decadence, perversity, and depravity “normal” now, so...well, what is “normal” anymore? What is “virtue”? Most Americans wouldn’t’ know virtue if it bit them in the backside. And it is totally the reason why we elect people like Joe Biden, Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi, and every other Democrat in Washington and around the country today—and most Republicans as well.
If you give Evil the right to vote, do not be surprised if Evil is what is elected to public office. If you give Foolishness the right to vote, do not be surprised if Fools are elected to office. If you give Selfishness the right to vote, do not be surprised if Selfish people are elected to office. If you give Ignorance and Stupidity the right to vote, do not be surprised if tyrants are elected to office. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” But we have kicked God’s Word to the curb, and true wise men can see the consequences of that in our world today.
As always, our Founders were right. America today has given power to godless reprobates and the country is in dire straits because of it. It’s not new in history, by any means, but it does seem to be a lesson that humans never learn.
