Yes, He Came Out of That Tomb, Part Five
Why do so many reject the historical fact of the resurrection of Christ?
Why do so many people reject the historical truth of the resurrection of Jesus from the grave? That is actually a very easy question to answer, though the source of individual motivations might be more complicated.
I’ve presented only four arguments for the resurrection of Christ. For space’ sake, I did so only briefly; each of these arguments could be multiplied exponentially, and others added to it. I encourage the reader to further study. There is probably no historical fact in the ancient world with greater and stronger testimony than the resurrection of Christ. Caesar crossed the Rubicon; of this fact, no one has any doubt. Yet the evidence for the resurrection of Christ is far greater than the evidence for Caesar crossing that river.
So, why do so many people reject it?
Caesar crossing the Rubicon, or nearly any other ancient fact, has little—no—influence or impact on our lives. It costs me nothing to believe it. But not so with the resurrection of Christ. Even the Bible speaks of the “pleasures of sin” (Hebrews 11:25). If Jesus came out of that tomb, then He is Who He said He was—God in the flesh (John 8:58), the possessor of all authority in heaven and on earth (Matthew 28:18), the One whose words will judge us in the last day (John 12:48). It means we have to give up our life of “the pleasures of sin” and obey Him. Homosexuals must quit committing homosexuality, adulteries must quit committing adultery, drunkards must quit getting drunk—we all would be subject to HIS will, not ours.
That is too high of a price to pay for most human beings. It always has been. Read the Bible carefully. When has a majority of people in the world—even the Jews in the Old Testament—ever been right and obedient to God?
In a peculiar sort of way, the mass rejection of the resurrection of Jesus is actually another proof of it. Jesus Himself said most people would be lost (Matthew 7:13-14), and implicit statement that the majority would not conform their lives to His resurrection and what it truly means. Skeptics, by their very skepticism, are proof of the deity of Christ. He predicted them.
People reject the resurrection because they want to sin. That is ultimately the reason why. Our current secular “zeitgeist” has “intellectuals” telling us that the Bible is a bunch of fairy tales and miracles such as the resurrection cannot happen. Many people believe that without ever investigating on their own. They believe what they want to believe. The motivations are many.
But ultimately, people reject the resurrection of Christ because they do not want to believe it, they want to live their lives they way THEY want to live them, and not the way Jesus wants them to live them. That’s the basic reason people reject the resurrection. Not because there is no evidence for it.
The Jews rejected the resurrection—and still do—because Jesus wasn’t the Messiah they wanted. They hated Him so much that they killed Him. And these were “God’s people” (John 1:12).
Is it any surprise that Joe Biden, the Democratic Party, and all Leftists hate Christianity and Jesus so much? It is not in the least bit surprising. Rejection of truth is absolutely nothing new for humanity.
But, He “presented Himself alive after His suffering by many infallible proofs, being seen by them during forty days” (Acts 1:3). “Many infallible proofs.” So said the historian of the day who had “traced the course of all things accurately from the first” (Luke 1:3) and was in a position to know better than anyone alive today.
He IS risen!
Incidentally, millions upon millions of people over the last 2,000 years have believed, and today, do believe in the resurrection of Jesus. I’m not the only one.
